Membership Benefits

Assist the local people of the region. IMEC works directly with people in developing mountainous regions of the world to improve social, cultural, and environmental problems. Members are invited to visit local families, learn about the Porter Assistance Project or attend weekly slide shows with KEEP (the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project).

Volunteer Programs. IMEC offers the Nepal Volunteer Handbook and the Kilimanjaro Volunteer Handbook with crucial information for anyone looking to volunteer in Nepal or the Kilimanjaro region. In addition, we place English teachers in schools near Mt. Everest in our Volunteer Nepal Himalaya Program.

A Homestay program. The homestay participant lives with the family -- sleeping in a traditional home, taking their meals with the family, and maybe even touring the city or celebrating a holiday or birthday with them. Stop into the Clubhouse to choose a family from our homestay folder.

Kangri News. Our hardcopy newsletter contains interesting articles on research, culture, trip ideas, and charitable work being conducted in Nepal, Tanzania and other mountain regions of the world. In addition, a classified section will assist those looking for travel partners or guides.

MountainNet. Our monthly online newsletter contains the latest travel, volunteer, and cultural information on Nepal, Tanzania and other mountain regions of the world. The monthly e-mail also serves as a "message board" for our members to communicate with one another.

Use of the Kathmandu  and Moshi Clubhouse. IMEC Clubhouses serve as a "home away from home" for IMEC members. Stop in, have tea, meet other travelers, pick up your mail, use the telephone, e-mail home, or store luggage while you are trekking. The Clubhouses can even reserve a hotel and arrange for airport transportation.

Discounts on books and maps about the region. Visit our online catalog for the best deals on books, maps, and gear. Members save 10% to 20% on all purchases.
